BIF 2 Year Anniversary: The Journey

Two years ago today, we opened the doors to BIF for the very first time. What started as a dream - a slightly terrifying, but wildly exciting one - has turned into a journey we could never have fully imagined. Here are a few thoughts from Iuliia and Valeria, and a look back at a few of our favourite moments from these two years.

BIF is more than just a boutique or a business. It’s a passion project, a leap of faith and a family adventure, all at the same time. While she’d never openly admit it, owning a boutique had always been Iuliia’s quiet dream. After 23 years of working as a Fashion Buyer for other stores, she knew the industry inside out. But knowing it and building something of your own are two very different things.

“I think that most people doubted me when I told them that I’d open a boutique now”, she says.

“First because of the location - Diekirch isn’t exactly known as a fashion capital. Second because I had stepped away from buying for two years. And third because, at a certain age, people expect you to slow down, not take risks.

But I’ve never been one to follow the rules, and BIF is proof that you shouldn’t either. These two years have been intense and sometimes very exhausting, but I am so incredibly proud of what we’ve built. And even more excited about what’s still to come.”

The Evolution of BIF

Like any young business, BIF didn’t stay static. It evolved organically, sometimes unexpectedly - shaped by observations and your feedback.

Looking back, some milestones feel surreal:

  • Renovating and reshaping our Diekirch boutique to make it warmer, cosier and easier to navigate.

  • Hosting and participating in really fun events - from our runway show during the Mercedes-Benz Herbstmesse to our theatrical performance at BAC.

  • Launching our online shop and a completely new website, allowing you to shop our collection wherever you are.

  • And, of course, most recently: opening our second boutique in Luxembourg-City.

But the biggest change was a structural one that happened behind the scenes.

The Structural Shift

For the first year, Iuliia handled everything on her own: buying, styling, interior decisions, customer service, administration. A year in, her daughter - aka, I joined her full-time.

What started as “helping a bit with marketing” quickly turned into doing a bit of everything. Because that’s how small businesses survive: by wearing multiple hats, following one vision and trusting each other to give it your all.

Becoming a true mother-daughter duo in business changed the dynamic behind the curtains, but it also changed BIF. We became louder (or more entertaining, in my humble opinion), more digital, more communicative - but our values stayed the same:

  • Quality vs price: We don’t want clients to simply pay for a label, but we also don’t want items to be produced in an environment where garment workers don’t even gain minimum wage.

  • Comfort and versatility: Our goal is to get you excited to get dressed in the morning, not fill your wardrobe with frill that will never see the light of day.

  • Interest or innovation: We do carry a lot of timeless classics, but we always try to also offer articles that are interesting and have something unique about them.

What Truly Makes BIF Special

What makes us stand out though, aren’t our unique selling points, the fact that we’re a mother-daughter duo or even our amazing collections. It’s the personal exchange. The DMs where we help you choose the article that best fits your lifestyle and wardrobe. The in-store conversations that turn into hour-long styling sessions. The FaceTime calls where we measure sleeves so you can choose the right size.

It’s the trust you put in us and the relationships we created along the way. It’s the fact that we don’t just sell clothes, but that we get to play a small role in your story. And that’s a privilege we’ll forever be grateful for.

If the past two years have taught us anything, it’s that growth and evolution don’t always look the same. Sometimes they come in form of gorgeous collections and ‘we’re getting somewhere’-moments during fancy events - other times, they look like renovation dust, website crashes and late nights. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

So from the bottom of our hearts: thank you. For every click, read, like, comment, share, follow, visit and purchase. For every word of encouragement and every recommendation. For trusting us with your wardrobe - and for letting us play a part in your big and small life moments. Without you, BIF would simply be a dream. With you, it became real project that’s growing by the day, and something tells us that this is only the beginning!

Pssst... If you're reading this before 21st March 2026, we're currently hosting a giveaway for a €200 voucher over on our socials, in case you wanted a reason to shop.
